Optical component specialist

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Within the R&D team and reporting to the Product Support & improvement manager, the Optical component specialist will have the responsibility to maintain EXFO’s catalog of components and ensure the independence of our designs (products) in relation to our supplier. The Optical component specialist will have to support innovation and effectiveness of R&D as being a solution provider when creating new component in the catalog. The Optical component specialist will work with a multidisciplinary team and in an environment multisite.

More precisely, the principal responsibilities of the Optical component specialist will consist to:
• Influence the choice of suppliers by promoting re-use of a supplier because of its expertise and perform technical audit of new suppliers (quality of supplier) ;
• Influence the choice of technologies by promoting re-use of component already existing in EXFO’s catalog (component quality) ;
• Do technological watch (end of life, cost of good reduction) and knowing technology offer trends ;
• Maintain internal standards for facilitate the use of components within designs and facilitate the component qualification within designs ;
• Ensure the consistency of our definitions for custom part within catalog and maintain inspection plans for the components in the catalog ;
• Be the responsible for the qualification of equivalent components, including: end of life, cost of good reduction, Supplier change, International standard conformity (WEEE-RoHS), second source ;
• Be the responsible for troubleshooting components not conforming to specifications ;
• Support the Vendor Performance Manager when supplier improvement requires technical expertise.

When needed, you may be asked to perform any other task related to your position.

MAIN SKILLS
We search a candidate who can act as general practitioner. Optical component specialist must have an excellent knowledge of the optical fiber components, electro-optical components and “bulk” components. He must understand several physics phenomena, be able to talk easily about and synthesize the results.

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• University degree in physic, or any other relevant field
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
• Excellent proficiency in English and Fluent French. Simplified Chinese will be an asset.
